4th and 5th Grade Strings
4th and 5th Grade students have the opportunity to learn a string instrument (violin, viola, cello, or bass) during the school year. 4th Grade Strings is offered to 4th Grade students. This group is for students who know very little about playing a string instrument. 5th Grade Strings is offered to 5th Grade students. This group is for students who have played in the 4th Grade Strings class or have previous lessons on a string instrument. Each group meets twice a week.
Students are required to practice 15-20 minutes at least 4 times a week outside of the twice weekly rehearsals.
Parents must provide the instrument, needed accessories (chin rest, shoulder rest, rosin) and instrument book.
Strings gives students the opportunity to learn either the violin, viola, or the cello. They will learn how to read music and the proper technique to play these instruments. This is a great way for students to increase their knowledge and skill level in music! They will also be jump-starting their way into a performing art they can continue all the way through middle and high school! It also gives them a chance to perform in front of an audience alongside others. They will grow musically, socially, and gain confidence in what they’re doing!!
The 4th and 5th Grade Strings groups will perform at two concerts during the school year.
The following materials will be required to participate in Orchestra:
* An instrument of the student's choice (violin, viola, cello)
* Essential Elements 2000 for Strings Book 1 for their instrument part
* Chin rest and shoulder rest
* Rosin
You can rent an instrument from a local music store such as McFadyen's or Redfish Music in Greenville.
Please do not purchase an instrument from Amazon (You get what you pay for.).
You can also purchase the instrument book and accessories at these stores or online from Amazon.
